When I write poetry and music, most of the subject matter is from the perspective of the collective. Much of my 3-dimensional Art, too, is based on the stories, myths, and experiences of humanity as a whole.
These photographic collages, however, are intimate. They speak to my own challenges, triumphs, desires, and strength . Many of them feature images of me taken by photographers who did not appreciate the interpersonal depths that they were witnessing when I stepped in front of their cameras. They certainly never paid me enough for what I brought to their projects. I was a young model, though, and did not quite value my work the way that I do now. We live and we learn.
By taking my own photographs and weaving them together with pictures of me/drawings from my sketchbook, then sprinkling in a few other elements here and there, I am inviting the observer to look out at the vastness of my soul. Perhaps they will find their own along the way, as well, but that’s none of my business.
My business is forgiveness; to rise above, and to create.
And that is what this series embodies.
